Friedrich Hegar (Basel, 11 October, 1841 — Zürich, 2 June, 1927) was a Swiss conductor and composer. He studied at the Leipzig Conservatorium under Hauptmann, Rietz, and David, at the same time playing violin in the Gewandhaus Orchestra. The major portion of his career was spent in Zürich, where he served as concertmaster and then conductor of the orchestra. He also conducted various choirs. In his time in Zürich, he gave about a hundred performances each of Brahms and Wagner, and 57 of Bach.
