Provisorisches Statut der Schule für ausübende Tonkunst bei der Königlichen Akademie der Künste zu Berlin

Prussian Minister of Ecclesiastical, Educational, and Medical Affairs, Heinrich von Mühler, signed this provisional statute for Berlin’s School of Musical Performance on 16 June 1870, with Joseph Joachim already directing the school’s work. The opening paragraph dated its existence from 1 October 1869 and named the subjects then taught: violin, viola, cello, piano, and music theory. The school stood beside the Academy’s older school of composition, established under the royal order of 31 March 1833. Mühler’s nineteen paragraphs brought these activities into a common institutional frame while reserving room for classes in solo and choral singing, further instruments, and additional subjects.
